Oh, very nice! I like the way it comes full circle in the end, this time with a more hopeful outcome. It's also nice that you left the identity of the gift-giver ambiguous; now everybody can imagine the person of their choice. :-)

I agree with the previous posts. I do like the last one, but the fourth one is is especially poignant - during that wretched year as Headmaster with the Carrows, he at least had one house-elf giving him a smile on his birthday. thank you for sharing this!
