The story of Eileen and Severus' trip to the museum is just wonderful; I really feel Severus' excitement and joy, and I love how Eileen patiently teaches him. It's so sad that their enjoyable time is marred by Tobias' behavior, but also cheering to see how Eileen comes to Severus to end his day with another happy Potter story.

A birthday treat for Severus from his mum was lovely to see, she cares for him deeply by sharing a childhood memory. It was a shame Tobias had to return home and spoil things for them both after such a perfect day. Eileen’s explanation of why they could not run away was so sad.

Thanks for writing and sharing this bittersweet tale. I am sure that Severus always remembered the trip with his mum into adulthood.

Well this made me sad. I think MA did a great job of weaving through how his young life and that of his mother’s was complicated and had both joy and horror.

What a touching story! Somehow the slow and detailed account of the visit to the museum makes the scene of violence that Severus must hear seem even worse. Perhaps because we've seen what a sensitive boy he is: shy to talk to another child, and frightened by loud voices - maybe due to what he's often witnessed at home.

Severus' life at home had to be like this... excellent days when his mum could do things like take him to a museum and bad nights when Tobias is on a tear.
