Oh, sorry! I meant to put a link or something there --
It stands for "Community Supported Agriculture" and it's basically a farmer's co-op. You buy into a farm for a season, and get a weekly share of the crops. Generally this means you're both supporting a local farmer and getting much fresher and tastier vegetables than you would at the local supermarket (where vegetables are treated in all kinds of weird ways to help them survive shipping).
veggies are muchly exciting. And I've been using canvas bags for grocery shopping recently and have been really happy with it. Although we just movede to a sort of yuppie-ish town and people stare at the girl with the husband who is covered in tattoos and the canvas grocery bags on the back of her bicycle. How have you been?
Hi! I've been mostly alright but very disorganized. Trying to work on that.
Canvas bags are the best. You can reuse them, they hold more stuff, and you don't have to worry about them splitting somewhere between the store & home. I think I have the opposite problem from you. Where I am is decidedly non-yuppie-ish and I think a lot of the locals don't really get why someone would refuse free plastic bag. So that leads to a few funny looks at check-out.
However, since the climate here is multi-ethnic (and generally accepting) we don't get people staring at us, even though we're a mixed-race couple and my husband's hair is nearly 2 ft. long. We do find that waiters always remember us, though. :) The most awkward situation was when the mailman didn't seem to believe that my last name could be Chinese without me being Chinese. Otherwise, no one seems phased. Hooray for Queens.
I moved to the North shore of Long Island. Very yuppyish. But our house is adorable!!! We love it, so the neighbors can go screw for all we care. We don't make hardly any noise and we both make decent money. And we live down the block from the only tattoo shop in town which makes hubby happy. And there's a kick ass coffee shop and vegan restaurant in the area as well, so we're very pleased with our choice.
I learned about this sort of thing in my Food History & Culture class (it was the only thing I truly enjoyed learning during that entire course) and I'm glad you're involved in supporting local farms. Hope your veggies taste better than ever!

Neighbors can get used to it. Right now you're a novelty. It'll wear off.
