Theresa and I decided to blow off our family obligations this year and take a little vacation. We drove up to Monterey and saw the Aquarium. I don't know if you've discovered this yet or not, but stranded copper is much much easier to pull through conduit than solid copper, and the current-carrying capacity is very similar.

How come you're pulling only two wires? No ground?

Teflon tape or no, the cast iron and galvanized piping just rust out all around. Having to "only" hacksaw apart a joint is really about the best possible outcome :-) Besides, I think your house is almost as old as Teflon, which wasn't even invented until the late 1930's.

I didn't know stranded copper was easier to pull, live and learn. Of course, now I've got a whole bunch of solid that I'll be using up for a while.

The new circuit uses the same ground as the existing circuits.

The back house is much newer than the original house, but the pipe was still pretty corroded. Actually, the inside of the pipes was pretty gross. I'd love to re-pipe the whole backhouse with copper or PEX, except everything's run through the slab. At least the main house is all copper.

I've definitely learned a lot about the kind of stuff I like in a house and the kind I don't. I definitely would have done the entire electrical plan differently.
