Yeah, don't even get me started on the Wehrmacht's drive east. By all counts, mind you, the German war machine had commited 20% of its forces on the Western Front, and the remainder to crush the Soviet Union, they should have crushed the Bolshevik Horde. The suprise invasion of '41 and the drive to Moscow was squandered when Hitler demanded Army Group Centre to turn south, to secure a path to oil south. They were less than 50 miles away from the outskirts of the Kremlin! Barely any forces for Stalin to muster to defend the capital. Instead, it grinds to a halt at Stalingrad. General Winter (as the germans called the soviet winters) definitely had his part to play as well. Nothing like finding your evening watch literally frozen to death in place on watch the following morning!

Also, buy the fucking model already!

1.) I bought it. :)
2.) I totally agree that securing the south, as opposed to a direct drive to the capital (which is what the generals wanted) was Hitler's biggest mistake on the Eastern Front, even more so than starting late.
