Realisation of the day

It is really difficult to play xbox games on a 13" television.  Figuring out what's happening on screen becomes nearly impossible any time the scene is at all dark.

This compounds my complete incompetence at video games.  I reached Raxus Prime in Force Unleashed (which is, oh, the third place you go) and can get no further, even with on line how-tos ( Read more... )

You need help with Oblivion? I'd be happy to help.

BTW, are you familiar with http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page ? They are THE go-to guide for me when I'm stuck on a quest or need a map assist or just want to see what sort of loot's available.

You are the anti-me. MMOs scare the living crap out of me.

I would never have started playing MMOs if I didn't have friends who play them, since the social aspect of the games would scare me, too, otherwise. I mainly play with said friends (sometimes with the addition of their friends) or by myself.

That wiki does look helpful. :) Though it appears that my problem with one quest is simply that I suck at fighting. Maybe I can use the wiki to find things that won't kill me (or at least won't kill me quickly) to get better at that. And it appears that one quest I thought I might need to be higher level to do, I don't, so I can give that one a shot, which also might help. And it appears that there are tons of other quests to find.

Thanks! :D

I'm curious: what's the quest you're having the most trouble with, if you don't mind? (If you do mind, then don't answer, of course.)

It's a side quest, "Go Fish." The slaughterfish keep slaughtering me. I have a little trouble with combat anyway, but I really can't pull it off in the water. I've got to figure out combat beyond flailing wildly at the thing attacking me.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Quests is awesome for quest help, BTW.

Something that helps with the dark, if you can't actually turn up the brightness or contrast on your screen, is turning off the lights in the room (unless you need them, obviously). In-game, Light and Night-Eye are your friends. You can use them as spells, potions, scrolls, or as enchanted items. Night-Eye is especially useful if you're sneaking, because hostiles will detect you more easily if you have a light spell going. On the other hand, Night-Eye (in Oblivion) turns everything a monochrome blue, which ruins the ambience for some players and also makes some items harder to see. I usually use Night-Eye for dungeon crawling and Light when I'm outside or in towns.
