Sometimes shunning sounds like a really good idea

I vote we start with a certain self-important jackass and sometimes author: James Frey.  I amazes me that this guy gets invited to speak anywhere and it amazes me even more that people enter into contracts with a man who avows that truth does not exist.  Gee, sounds like a great guy to have a business relationship with.  Add on that he sounds like ( Read more... )

Well, Frey's money making scheme anyway. Not that Hollywood didn't jump all over themselves getting the movie deal because... yeah.

So, the eternal question: sociopath or narcissist? The complete absence of a sense of right or wrong points to sociopath, but on the other hand there are the extreme delusions of grandeur in that he believes himself to be a world-shaking author who will be remembered forever, typical more of narcissists.

As for his fiction factory, here's what strikes me as a key problem: he's depending on getting block-busting fiction out of people stupid enough to think novel writing is a great way to make a quick buck.
Novel writing is many wonderful things, but a good get rick quick scheme is not one of them.

No, it's not. On the other hand, a man who doesn't believe in truth probably also has difficulty with the concept of facts.

The only way I'd touch the only product so far of the fiction factory is to snark at it. If I ever get really bored, well, I work at a library, and it sounds highly snarkable. On the other hand, that would still be giving the asshole an audience, and mostly I'd really like for him to go away.
