Wow, that didn't suck!

Rave review, I know.  But the new Sherlock Holmes movie...didn't suck.  I'm not sure it was exactly Sherlock Holmes, but it was a hell of a lot closer than I thought it would be and was actually fairly entertaining.  I didn't spend the movie playing "spot the plot hole" or muttering to myself about stupidity.  I'd have to see it again to know if it

Aww, now someone says it didn't suck? Now I'm getting conflicting reports... hopefully it will be on television soon so I can check it out. :D

Well, that doesn't make it great. I went in expecting much suck and was pleasantly surprised. Whether its actually good is another question. It did get extra points from me for a) having heroes who were smart and b) not killing off someone I expected would die.

I guess the best description of it is an Americanized version of Sherlock Holmes. I think of Holmes as classier than the version we get here, but I don't think this interpretation is completely out of left field.

Basically, don't expect too much and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, a better mystery would've been nice. I can live with more actiony since the actual stories varied wildly on how much they were mysteries. I do think the boxing scene was pointless. But, yeah, fun popcorn chompy movie sounds about right.
