I was bored (and suffering from temporary stupidity, apparently) so I watched the movie I Spy.  Now, I've never seen the 60s television show the movie was (loosely) based on (I don't like Bill Cosby because of his attitude toward children...long story.), but my parents watched it, so I know a little about it.  And what I know about the television ( Read more... )

I don't like Bill Cosby because of his classist "blame the victim" attitude on race issues, so we've got that in common. (Actually, I think I know what you mean with his attitude towards children, and I've never like it much, either.)

Re: the movie, I hate to be one of these people, but I swear things are getting worse. It's even more significant that I Spy was the first American TV drama to have a black lead; it was downright ground-breaking, or so I'm told.

Yeah, the TV show was ground-breaking. And apparently not only ahead of its time, but ahead of our time. *sigh*

And our subconscious biases are really, really unenlightened. It's kind of scary to think about what nasty prejudices lurk just below the surface of...well...of any of us. Kind of makes me wish there was a pill we could take to get rid of them.
