I agree, the writing isn't terrible and the story is generally not-suck. The little bits of canon-warp ARE a bit annoying, but not all that much.
There's no WAY Ami would verbally smack down her mother like that.

Additional lack of love given for the fact that she feels that Naru would abandon her birth mother in order to hang on to the ghost of her past life. I'm sorry, but if flighty Usagi can find it in her to not get caught up in the princess bullshit, then level-headed Naru would certainly keep herself in check. Also, aquamarine and sea green are less different than you think. They're just shades of blue-green, sea green being the lighter of the two.
