Speaking of, BITCH BITCH WHORE SKANK BITCH BITCH. Really, the number of specifically female pejoratives linked to sex and sexuality in this episode simply astounded me. The fact that women flung them about, too? Doesn't do anything to make it okay.
I've said it before, and here I am saying it again, I am extremely turned off by the kind and extent of violence that has been shown this season. It's explicit, it's lingering, it's almost *loving*. It turns me off in a major way. Good thing I was spoiled for most of the grossness this episode - I was able to watch it with detached disgust.YES. All these things. EXACTLY

The KNIFE THING. It's a MAGIC KNIFE. So, you only need to stab ONCE. That was crazy gratuitous. And the way they had a closeup of it. What are we supposed to think about that? That Dean had so much rage that he had to stab-stab-stab even though he knew he didn't need to?
Like, his rage seemed WAAAAY overdone for the situation. Like, let me see someone torture Sam in front of him for hours or something, and then I'll believe he's THAT MAD.
But this was...like, what? Are you...okay, dude? He was SCARY! And like, EMBRACING HER. And it was WEIRD. And I don't want to feel SCARED of Dean. I LOVE DEAN.
It may have been smart to see Sam make that kind of move, NOW, with all this "We don't know if we brought him back right!" shit going on. And Dean would be all FROWNY and uncomfortable. And everyone would GASP. And...it'd just have been more character-appropriate, for now.
OR. Just characterize Dean as a misogynist, and the way Sam struggles to relate to him/deal with that. Like, don't half-ass that! If you MEAN that, GO FOR IT.
I LOVE DEAN TOO. Or, a version of Dean. What Dean is that? The Dean in the collective fannish unconscious? The Dean from previous seasons?
Is this...displacement? Because he's mad that he's gonna die? Mad at his mother for leaving him at a young age? Too late, folks. This show is not that complex.

I feel like they are going that way with Sam, but they're stalling. I always feel like they have and endpoint in mind and not so much with the details of how they are going to get there, and that stuff gets effed up. Which I guess is just...mediocre TV?

I knew I was going to have to turn to fic to make Dean and Sam more complex, and to deal with All Of The Other Stuff (AOTOS), but I didn't know it was going to be this bad.
It's like, not only are they aggressively marketing the show to the 18-35 male demo. and making some sad assumptions that those guys are kind of dumb and have a lot of issues with women, (and also showing their white privilege undies in the process), but they are actually embarrassed that so many women watch the show and they are trying to get rid of us. Or they think that the female demographic will always come back for more, entranced by the power of Jensen Ackles's ass, and Padalecki's dimples. And also possibly not even notice.

Show doesn't want me anymore.
Exactly. It feels like they are intentionally trying to alienate the female audiences. And we've been such good fans! We sent postcards! We pimp like no one's business! We even tried to read those crap comic books!
Two more seconds and I'm going to grab a highlighter and start singing "I Will Survive." Or possibly Anastacia's I'm Outta Love

Honestly, I am beginning to believe that's the explanation.
I am going to have a hell of a time finishing the story I'm working on, if this keeps up. Show, stop trying to make me hate you!
