Like Gorobei, Kambei has impressed Hijikata with his competence and ability to keep a cool head during crises. Unlike Gorobei, Kambei doesn't like to play the "let's make Hijikata want to kill me!" game, so Hijikata actually likes him a bit. Hijikata respects Kambei's intelligence, and it's good having another grumpy person around who doesn't try to change how Hijikata is and draws off some of the crazies now and then.

Hijikata isn't the sort to warm up to friendships quickly, but he's vaguely receptive to at least getting along with Kambei. Given the time, I can see them being really good friends. Who never talk unless there's a need to.

Oh, Alfred. Hijikata...uh. Well, he doesn't really hate Alfred, not in the "I'd kill him if I got half the chance" sort of way. He just feels that Alfred would be more tolerable very, very, very far away without any means of contacting him.

Hiji is, as so astutely observed, is a stick in the mud. Even the positive side of his thinking tends to be kind of grim. He does not do friendly or happy, and attempts to make him do so typically just make him annoyed at whoever's trying to "cheer him up". Alfred is really no exception to this. Hijikata finds his optimism incomprehensible and his spirit of adventure foolish and useless. I foresee very little change in the "be more positive!" "stfu and gtfo." dynamic, really XD

This should all be taken with a grain of salt, as Hijikata tends to see the worst in everyone.

Pfft, I shouldn't have to tell you this. Rou is one of the very few people in the world Zou is actually kind of fond of--though with the two of them, there's a bit of a strange definition of fondness. One that involves a lot of insults and threats and hiding concern under a good layer of contempt. Zou doesn't have quite the same loyalty to Rou that Rou does to him--he's not at all above using their connection to try and manipulate him--but he does care about his cousin and want to see him safe. If it came down to it, he probably wouldn't be able to actually hurt Toshirou ( ... )

Heihachi!

Heihachi is an interesting figure. Oddly, Hijikata is more capable of understanding the side of him that doesn't come out often--the scheming, kinda paranoid side that gets out when he suspects foul play or treason--than he is of understanding the simple, happy side. He's well aware of both, though he's not aware of why Heihachi is so hard on "traitors".

Though aware of the pretty massive inconsistencies between those two sides, Hijikata doesn't particularly think of it as weird (because Souji tends to have little in between "happy sugar funtimes yay!" and "gonna kill bitches"). He doesn't think that either side is any more real than the other, and in fact, the glimpses of duality emphasize his humanity to Hijikata (which is good; Hijikata can occasionally get swept up and forget that people aren't just another resource for use in battle).

The part that confuses Hijikata is all this...happiness and random acts of kindness stuff. Doesn't bother him, he just doesn't get it. Once he was convinced it wasn't just a front to ( ... )

HOW MUCH DOES SEPPUKU-MAN WANT TO KILL ANKO? 8DDD

...I mean, hold on, let me think on that. For a couple of months, apparently, because I missed that there had been more comments on here OTL

Anko pisses Seppuku-man off. Somewhat unsurprising, since she likes getting under people's skin and he's got anger problems. In particular, the candy store incident just about killed him with embarrassment and anger, the time she and Reno got it on over the network made him consider dropping someone off the boat on purpose this time, and the nickname...he's not a fan of the nickname. At all.

On the other hand, much more recently, he's gotten the chance to work with her and notice that--surprise!--she's actually somewhat capable. So he'll be less quick in the future to assume that she's obnoxious and dead weight ( ... )
