Forty-Second Scheme [Public]

Combating terrorism, my ass. Those sons of bitches don't have the first damned idea who was behind the assassinations or the bombings, and they're trying to draw attention away from their own ignorance by picking on an easy target. Taking money from a disadvantaged group while they're at it... Fucking wretches ( Read more... )

news, public, calling shenanigans, unimpressed with the politicians' bullsh, equal opportunity grumpyface, demihumans, idiocy: not just for ivona anymore, need a drink, vohemar

You make a good point. Why, I remember a group of Ivonians who immigrated to Vohemar months ago for this very reason. Unfortunately for them, though, the noose around their necks made it difficult to feel accepted.

I imagine it would.

Having myself emigrated from Ivona, I find the Vohemaro lifestyle preferable. This kind of prejudice, however, drags us all down, and counteracts the inherent strengths of Vohemaro culture.

Uncalled for as this move is, I advise against it. There's enough conflict on our hands at the moment that a more passive form of resistance would be better for you and Vohemar as a whole.

That said, I don't think for an instant that you should stand for this.

I agree. You should think strategy. Riots and small attacks will do nothing but build hatred. The best you could hope for after a full out war is to have won a piece of land for yourselves, but even then, there would be a great deal of Reial you would no longer be welcome in. Bad blood lasts for generations.

And not all demi-humans love fighting as much as you do. With such a minority, you would do well to be united in your actions.

Unity is important not only to the demihuman minority, but to Vohemar. Tensions with Ivona have been rising; if we start breaking into factions and killing each other over this, all of us will lose when Ivona comes in with a unified force and picks our smaller groups off one by one. That's basic strategy, and at least one of the pompous fools from their pretty little academy must have gotten it through their head.

This is just... unfair.

I don't think I like Ivona or Vohemar much these days.

People do stupid things when they feel threatened. And the larger the groups of people involved, the stupider their actions.

Vohemar has its problems--steadily increasing ones at the moment-- but at least the corruption here isn't as deep-rooted and old as it is in Ivona. There's a chance to fight it here.

...It will be all right.

But... they're picking on people who haven't even done anything! If they need the money, they should just be open about it... I'm sure everyone would be okay with that... it couldn't be a very large tax if this is how they're trying to collect it...

And if it's not about the money, then it's just silly. What do demihumans have to do with bombs anyway? I could build a better bomb than the ones we found on the ship, and I didn't even go to school for very long, let alone have any sort of special powers.

...I know everyone's all right while we're on the ship... I just...

Don't like the idea of not having anywhere I want to call home anymore.

The money is, in all likelihood, an afterthought. They're trying to divert attention from their inability to deal with the real threats by focusing on a scapegoat. Demihumans are an easy target because they're a minority with obvious differences from the majority, and can therefore easily be marginalized and made less "real" in the public consciousness. It's not about the money, or even about guilt. It's about fear, and reacting to it by blaming the easiest target.

If no one is acting rightly, then we'll just have to change things.

But no matter what the rest of the world does...You'll always have a home. I promise.

-he obviously sounds weak-...come now, Mister Hijikata...do you really think those ideals mean much to them with the tides of war lapping at their feet?

First of all, I don't need to hear this or anything from you.

Secondly, no. But if they had a thought in their heads beyond blind panic, they just might.

War changes people, Mister Hijikata. This is a truth of our world.
