From what I've learned about String Theory so far, it's not actually a theory in the sense of relativity or quantum mechanics. There are no rules (E=mc^2 E*t>h/(4*pi), etc), no framework from which all else flows. There's just mathematical manipulation that's little better than any other Platonic theory of how the universe works.

I could be entirely wrong (I've never really studied String Theory), but that's what I've gleaned of it so far.

(However, I'll take string theory over ID *any* day of the week.)

I'm glad you find this stuff interesting. Its what I wrote my senior thesis over. This is basically a pantheist perspective on things. Oh, and it was originally written by 19th century German philosopher G.W.F. Hegel. In his book, Phenomenology of Spirit (sometimes translated as Phenomenology of Mind), he elaborates his theory of evolution of the human Mind or "zeitgeist". Interestingly enough, this is where the term originates. See, I'm not so crazy.... ;)
