I wouldn't say I love her yet, but she's definitely started to grow on me, especially in the most recent episode. I think part of the problem with Elena is the same problem Smallville had with Lana, with her being so central to seemingly everyone's universe. I was lucky enough to start Smallville late enough to avoid that period, at least in its heaviest sense. Now I think The Vampire Diaries is starting to round out, and even though she's still really central, it's in a way I can stand, and other characters are getting their due. Not only that, but I'm starting to see her faults more clearly and distinctly, moreso than the first few episodes (which are comparably awful and easily dismissed as floundering), and that always makes me like a character like her more.
