Thank you canadabear for passing along this bit of information, that I will also be passing on to everyone on my list.

From the news page:
A journal is defined as inactive if it has not been logged into for 24 consecutive months. A community is defined as inactive if has not been updated for 24 consecutive months. Once an account is eligible to be ( Read more... )

I'm so torn about this. I'm all about cleaning up clutter (my own room, apparently, not withdstanding), but so many inactive journals and especially communities serve as archives not just for the original writers, but for the rest of us.

I'm honestly hoping enough people complain that they change which accounts they're purging. I wouldn't mind inactive journals that haven't been used at all. I'm just remembering the good old days when they said our content wouldn't be deleted due to inactivity.

It looks like there's been an update! If an innactive account has more than one post in it, it should be safe, and I think communities only need one post with a minimum of one comment to be the same.

No way to guarantee those parameters will stay where they are, but I feel a lot better about this now.

Ohhh, shit. I was wondering if at some point they might start doing this. Dude, that's a hell of a lot of journals, for me. lol At least 10-12 celeb journals, and probably about... I KID YOU NOT, 30 muse journals. DAAAMN. I'ma be busy in the next few days. :(

ETA: And this macro is suddenly very appropriate.

Lucky for me, I've logged into pretty much all of mine in the past few days, just to get them all back in my lj loggin when I reinstalled everything firefox related. And then I logged into my very first account I had here that had just been sitting there, so it's safe now too.

Sad days for people who just don't remember their passwords and no longer have access to their registered e-mail addresses.

Did you remember the super-speshul one we had just been talking about? Cause ya know... Ya probably havent done anything with that recently, have you?

:\ Thanks for reminding me that I'm probably going to be having that problem. Especially with my celeb journals. *head/desk*

It's not old enough to be considered inactive, but like I said, logged into pretty much everything in the past few days.

I'm sorry :\ Go complain like everyone else and maybe it'll change their minds.
