The SImpsons......

Tonight they aired the first episode of The Simpsons in HD. The way it looks on my parents HDTV upstairs makes me think it's a waste though. The reason is because they seem to use too much sharpening which causes for there to be white around most of the colors ruining the look of the picture. This is espeically true since there are mostly just ( Read more... )

why do you even need hd animation? o_o;
isn't the big deal with HD to see details and vibrant colors?

animation being less on the details (hello oversharpening artifacts) and already known for (sometimes) containing super vibrant colors? especially when you consider something like FLCL which was completely done on computer from the ground up for super sharp lines and CRAAZY bright colors.

i guess its like nyko making that wireless nunchuck for the wii. totally stupid and worth nothing (really, how often do you need more than an armspan's worth of distance between your nunchuck and wiimote while using both? not to mention doubling the battery consumption of your controllers, lol) but someone thought somebody else would think it was cool so they did it anyway.

oh well.

Well, like I said for example animation cells seen in person have always looked better than they are seen on a TV. So it would be cool for animation on the TV to look closer to it. However as an update to what I was saying last night I figured out what the problem was ( ... )

One last thing.. that reminded me of something. One time I tried looking at the Strong Bad e-mail DVD but it looks a whole lot better on a computer monitor. Converting it to a standard definition DVD makes it a lot blurrier and lower resolution than viewing it on a computer... especially if you do what I do and you load up the swf file directly in the browser so it's essentially full screen. With cartoons in HD you get more pristine, true colors and cleaner lines.

aaah i see. nice to know you can adjust that.
i'm not against hd at all, i've seen the difference in live action, its really noticable and WOW is it nice.

i just think that, you know, if its so sharp that its TOO sharp, then it totally defeats the purpose and was a waste of someone's time. lol
