Something's not connected- not sure what. check the bottom of your case, are all the screws in? anything loose, I think there might be something with your bios you could do, but your probably better off just waiting till tonight, since you could do a lot of damage in bios, say telling it to ignore the hard drive.

Without breaking out the toolkit, all the screws in the bottom look okay. There are some that could be loose but are too far embedded in the case to tell without testing them. Since I do not want to ignore the hard drive (OMG) I will take it in tonight.

Thank you!

That sounds ominous. As if it doesn't find its OS anymore. You could try booting it from a Live CD OS System, that would allow you to check your hardware without permanently changing anything yet. If it doesn't find an OS on the hard disk most have the BIOS set to try booting from CD, so you wouldn't have to change BIOS settings I think.

I wish you luck with fixing it and that it won't turn out anything permanent.

Best Buy has sent it to the service center. I admit to buying it open-box so everything was already installed. I might have an XP disk but it's probably not the 'right' one if you know what I mean. *mopes*

It's trying to boot to the network, this is usually caused when it can't find the hard drive. The network is the last in the default boot list. Hence the attempt at the PXE boot. It's probably a bricked HD but booting to the OS cd and trying to do a repair install will at least show you if it can pick up the hard drive at all. Hope that helps and good luck.

Argh. Best Buy seems to think it's the hard drive, too.

Thanks!

That would be my guess; I've had the same message twice, and the first time it was certainly the hard drive that had failed. *comforts*

Matt says your ethernet card sounds like it crapped out or came loose. He wants to know if you have ever looked at the inside of the computer? If so, you might look to see if the ethernet card or connection is loose.

This is possible. Best Buy is sending it to the service center. I didn't want to open the case because trying to fix it myself could negate my warranty. I'm trying to` decide if it's time to go shopping for a backup laptop.

Thanks! I ended up taking it to Best Buy because I didn't want to invalidate my warranty. They seem to think it's the hard drive, too, so it's on its way to the service center. *sigh*
