Sci-Fi Friday!

Okay, even though I haven't gotten through the comments from last week, (I had two papers, a ficathon story, and a Contracts exam - WHICH I ROCKED SO HARD, IT'S STILL SEEING DOUBLE - so it's been a week), starting on episodes 13 here. This is the one SG-1 episode I did see earlier.

SG-1 10x13: The Road Not Taken )

I agree about Kolya's crapped out death and crapped out development, but I have to say that I've always wondered if the writers gave up after Davi really started phoning it in; he's always seemed so flat to me.

And, the Evel Knievel thing dates back to "Conversion" if not earlier; there's a picture of Joe with Evel Knievel as a kid on John's desk and has been since the Daedalus runs started and John could get his stuff, so I guess I don't mind it coming in again more explicitly.

And, I am wondering how the whole "Rodney and Sam were married in another universe" thing will play out in SGA next season with Sam as a regular. I hope it'll at least come up.

Huh, I wonder if that's a chicken/egg problem. I remember him being great in Storm/Eye. He had some good bits in Brotherhood but he was much better in the first appearance and in latter ones. (Where he was less focused, less clever, and without clearly defined motivation.)

This is a clear sign that I'm a giant dork, but it's actually the "Joe with Evel Knievel" thing that gives me the cognitive dissonance. I think if something had been said about that being John with EK earlier, before I heard that it was really a Joe Flanigan trait, it would have come more in stride for me. (Didn't I mention my giant dork factor?) ;)

Dude, I guess Sam would have to TELL Rodney, wouldn't she? I can see her avoiding that at all costs and it all coming out anyway. Rodney would be insufferable. :D

Yeah, it might just be a taste thing, too; I wasn't overly fond of the casting in Storm/Eye as regards Kolya, so I think I was just a little sulky about Kolya from the beginning.

Ahahah I can see where the Joe thing would bug from the beginning, from that perspective.

And, hahahahahahahaha oh God, see, I long for that scene. I am John/Rodney all the way in fanon, but we know that canon is heteronormative enough that it'll never happen and I am perfectly happy to see Rodney and Sam at least try to deal with that kind of tension, whether it ends up being anything or not.

Vala hugging Sam was so good. As was Rodney in glasses!

Irresponcible is a crappy episode with moments I really like. Like everything involving Batman (PS John: Batman is human you doof) and Kolya knowing that John loves Rodney more than anything in the world so he should be killed first. But if I never see that episode again, I won't cry.

Maybe it was personal shield 2.0, now improved so that it can be used by more than one person... but yeah,it doesn't make much sense.

In Joe Mallozzi's blog, someone else asked that question. Here is the question and his answer:

In Hide & Seek it was clear that once a person activated those shields, they didn't work on anyone else once (Rodney tried to put the shield on John's chest in that episode and didn't work) and one couldn't eat/drink while using the shield (Rodney thinking he was going to starve, not being able to even drink coffee, etc).”

Answer: The implication in Hide and Seek was that Rodney hadn’t a clue how to use the personal shield, anyone else even less. True, Rodney couldn’t even eat or drink with it on. However, in Irresistible, Lucius demonsrates his ability to turn the device on and off while he is sitting in the tavern, suggesting that he has enough control to eat and drink.

TRNT: Evil!Landry, yes! I enjoyed the booing & the hissing. SG should have cast Bridges as one of their villains, he's so much better at it. And General Hammond, ::sniff:: missed him *so much*.

I agree with you, dotcom!Rodney seemed subdued. As well as not having the joy of physics in his life, I think he's still carrying a torch for Sam. He taped her appearances on tv "just to watch it once" and you totally know he'll watch those tapes until they're worn out... that said, he really should have had a stronger reaction when Our!Sam blurted out that *his* Sam was dead, don't you think? I think Lorne should have as well, since he and that Sam were such good friends. I guess showing a few seconds of grief for the other Sam would have gotten in the way of the plot or something....

Sam as Mrs. McKay. There's just... So much love for that image. I totally want someone to write about that. And the divorce. And the glasses. *swoon* I'm a glasses kinda girl and... Excuse me while I go hunt up screen caps. And Vala hugging Sam! EEEEE!!!!!

SGA was very meh last night. I mean, I adored Ronon's whole "I bet it's one of my people" bit. And loved his "I do that all the time" about taking on multiple attackers. But, other than some great additions to Ronon, this was a waste.
