If I hear one more Northerner snickering at the locals here for their "wimpiness" towards the "little bit of snow" we got, it will make me mad. It's not a little bit of snow. We have 2ft of snow on the ground another 16 inches expected with this second round of blizzard conditions. People don't have shovels at home nor do they have cars equipped ( Read more... )

That sounds like England, especially in the South! Here it's mostly because the media are all in London, so snow in London is major news, whereas snow elsewhere is barely mentioned (even if it creates the same problems).

Also our heatwaves start around 22-23C. Around 25C it's the apocalypse ;)

I'll admit, I've been making sounds to this effect all winter here as well. "What do you mean the trains aren't running again? It's only a couple of inches? And what do you mean they've run out of salt? Ridiculous..." But the truth be told, this isn't normal for here and so the funds and infrastructure to deal with it are not in place.
