"Do you like planes?"
She blinked a couple times, glancing at him in the bathroom mirror as she brushed her hair back. "Not particularly."
"Oh."
"They beat out boats, though."
"What do you like? I mean, for transportation."
"For transportation? Um. Cars. Trains. Things that stay on solid ground mostly. I mean, planes, yeah, I understand the physics, but it's probably some-why, what about planes?"
"I was just wondering..."
"Wondering what?”
"Well actually I was thinking."
"That's always good."
"I was thinking maybe you could take one."
"A plane?"
"Next time we have time."
"Really? Where might I take this plane?"
"Maybe to New York."
Adam was trying to sound casual, but she could practically hear the nervousness in his voice. It wasn't something she usually heard from Adam, and she smiled slightly, thinking about how it was because of her.
"That might be fun."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah.” She switched to a high, breath voice all of a sudden. “But what would I do in New York? I would have nowhere to stay, and I wouldn't know where to start with a city that big, and-"
She couldn't help it. Adam had started smiling, and she smiled back, then he was laughing, and she started laughing, and the next thing she knew they were squished in the doorway of her tiny bathroom, kissing between bursts of laughter, and by the time they'd recovered, her hair probably needed to be brushed again before work, but instead she spent another ten minutes with Adam, figuring none of the guys she worked with would even notice whether she brushed her hair or not (and even if they did, like she really cared what they thought.)
