So, a few weeks back I tried calling contras at the 3rd friday thing at the Carlbergs'. I called a couple really simple dances and a more complicated dance. None of the lines disintegrated, so I count it a success. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I'm looking into dances I can try this month ( Read more... )

Yay! That's so cool.

I haven't been dancing in weeks and weeks, mainly because I'm busy, but also because I'm a wussie about going out in the cold and it's been SOOO cold. And also because the friends who usually go with me are also busy.

I think I might go this week though. :-)

You definitely should. Contra-ing, you won't stay cold very long.

I understand about the social motivation and/or lack thereof, but you know that if you make it out there it will be awesome. I need to figure out how to get work to send me to DC so I can go to Glen Echo.

Here's what I sent Frank. The first part is the choreography, and the second is more drawn out, and intended to help orient people to the dance. Any way you slice it, it's a lot of words for the callers and a lot of moving for the dancers, and a lot of fun ( ... )

Hey, I was actually able to follow that, and sort of see the whole dance in my head! Nice. Admittedly I don't normally try to see the whole dance in my head, but that's probably because I had assumed it was impossible. Following the instructions is complicated enough.
