Reprinted here is a remarkable tribute written by Irishman Kevin Myers about Canada’s record of quiet valour in wartime. This article appeared in the April 21, 2002 edition of the Sunday Telegraph, one of Britain’s largest circulation newspapers and in Canada’s National Post on April 26, 2002.

The sickest part is, had the movie Crocodile Dundee been made about a First Nations-influenced white man somewhere high up in BC, Canada may very well have enjoyed the same rugged and independent international image as Australia. The only bone Hollywood has ever thrown Canada since (the somewhat falsified) The Devil's Brigade was Death HuntAll of the heavier soldiers I know state that when they were involved with our Special Forces program, The British, French, and Canadian Operators were some of the best in the business. However, the Brits have James Bond to create inflated sense of pride...the French and Canadians have a shitload of unfair jokes that create an inflated (and, by my estimate, unfair) sense of shame ( ... )
