Banks are getting away with murder these days. It makes me sick. I lost about $400 in overdraft fees last week for a similar issue - and I fought it! I recovered about $105 of it. *sigh*
What's worse is that this is actually a credit union- they're supposed to be better than normal banks! They started an Erie community credit union a couple years ago that I've been hearing good things about- I think I'm going to switch. I just can't afford this crap.
That's total bullshit. When Erie Community Credit Union was still Verizon Federal Credit Union, they did the same thing to Hilary. She went out of town to see her SIL get married & when she got back she found that she'd had checks bouncing all over town & owed $1 Zillion in overdraft crap. Also, Erie CCU pissed me off. I went down there & changed my name on my old acct. They sent me a new debit card months later, with the old goddamn name. Minor, I know, but still a pain.
Try Erie Federal Credit Union. That's where Jim & I are. He's been with them since they were GE Federal. They're easier to work with, in my experience.
And good luck getting the Unemployment card to work. That's another load of horseshit. Just remember, you can't use it at Papa John's. Neither the Child Support or Unemployment cards will work there. I found that out the hard way.
I always get Erie Community & Erie FCU mixed up- in fact, I think I thought they were the same thing. The GE credit union is still the GE credit union, though- that's where I'm at now.
But like I said in the other post, the branch manager was very concerned & helpful. The fact that I am now unemployed carried some weight with him-- he made a point to note it on the form as a compelling reason to refund my money, which underscores why Credit Unions are so much better than banks.
Yeah, I got mixed up. Erie FCU used to be Hammermill's CU. Jim's dad is a retiree of both the mill & GE, so I got confuddled. Erie CCU was GTE (& then Verizon) & Erie Insurance (I think). I was a member of that when it was GTE FCU & I remember voting about the merger that made it Erie CCU. Anyway, yes, Credit Unions are a lot better than banks. When I used to take You-Know-Who to work in Norfolk, there were a lot of people who worked there with bumperstickers on their cars that said "Friends Don't Let Friends Use Banks," advertising a local CU. That always stuck with me.
