Nothing Accomplished...

And I mean both the Shrub & myself.

Every time I try to get caught up on e-mail & LJ these days, I get distracted by election coverage. Daily KOS, Crooks & Liars, & the Huffington Post (not to mention the Guardian)- I'm like an addict. I've got six more boxes to move from out of the middle of the room here so I can set up a couple of tables ( Read more... )

Last time I checked, Obama was NOT for gay marriage, and it's a disappointment for me. I'm hoping somebody in power wakes up to the fact that marriage is also a contract with The State/Federal Government--and that one right not given in DPs is the right to bring your fiance(e) into the country in order to wed and seek citizenship.

It is disappointing-- and that's why I always feel like I'm in some sort of alternate reality every time I come across a Right-wing commentator claiming Obama is "The most liberal person in the Senate".

Whack job on Pagan list eriegaypagan October 7 2008, 10:46:42 UTC
Aforementioned mega out gay guy here. Yup, the guy on the email list seemed to be pretty much clueless. What Pagan in their right mind would consider McCain/Palin as a good choice? How can you be a part of this particular community and not realize that their platform/history is basically in direct conflict with the bulk of fairly central Pagan beliefs.

I kinda suspect that he's not someone who's particularly active in the Pagan community. For one thing, it's the first time I can remember him posting on anything. It's possible he goes to BH's stuff or something & I just don't know him, though.

Sorry but I see that as a cop-out. Disappointing or not, they're the two choices we've got. No one's ever going to be perfect for everyone & turning on Obama because he isn't Barbara Boxer (or whoever your ideal candidate is- I happen to like Boxer) isn't going to help anything. Looking at the policies & plans of each one, Obama's clearly going to be better for anyone who's working class, cares about the environment, civil liberties, women's issues, etc. than McCain.

Also, a sound defeat for McCain/Palin would help move the political conversation further away from the Reight Wing- which would be a huge benefit to thinking persons everywhere.

i do believe that it is my right to either refuse to vote for either candidate i can (in no good consciousness) vote for, or write in someone i think is worthy as a non violent protest. both are legal and valid. yes, obama is slightly better than the utter train wreck of mccain and palin but i have very serious objections to HIS politics as well.

You do have that right. And I have the right to my own opinion. I don't imagine that either of us will change the other's mind so hopefully we can agree to disagree.

yeah, the chickie on the boards really was quite funny when you take into account who she was responding to.

and really, how any woman could vote for the party with that "woman" in it is absolutely beyond me.

Actually, the whacko on the EP list was a guy- not too many women named Tom.

And I agree with you about how any woman who actually cares about women's issues voting for the Trophy Veep. But she did say that any woman who didn't vote for her was going to hell-- oh, wait, she already thinks we're going there anyway.

Hot damn, I didn't hear that one. Guess I'm headed straight for the firey furnace, because there's no way in HELL I'd vote for that whackjob. In yesterday's paper (I think it was yesterday's) they were interviewing people & asking who they're voting for. One lady, who had 8 kids, was voting for the Trainwreck ticket because "she's a woman just like me. She has kids & she works, etc." It's like, yeah, thanks for buying right in to their bullshit. That's precisely what McCain was banking on. *seethes in anger*

It was her insane mis-quote of a Madeline Albright quote she read on her morning Starbucks cup (the quote is correct on the cup).
