From an article on the BBC site about the massive beef recall:

"However the department says the health hazard is minimal. Much of the meat was purchased for school lunch and other federal nutrition programmes."
In other words, there's no danger to the general public as all the potentially tainted beef will be eaten by school children & poor people ( Read more... )

Um...yeah. The kids are young, their stomachs can handle contaminated beef. WTF. Thank gods Daughter usually takes the PBJ at lunch instead of whatever they're serving. Oldest, on the other hand, will eat anything.

Ya know, this really makes me think about buying a cow.

yes, they took beef out of lunches for my kids last week. i'm glad to know they think the children and the poor are negligible collateral damage.
