Jul 27, 2008 00:20

We're going to discuss The Shakespeare Code and David Tennant just started his run with the RSC in Hamlet and Love's Labours Lost...how's that for timing? ^^

I love how Martha was full of questions about the period and her own personal safety. I also love how she seemed to adapt faultlessly to the time she was in once those questions were out of the way - she fits right in alongside the Doctor and she doesn't freak out! The Doc made a fantastic choice for his next companion.

It was this episode which made people realise the Doctor was having trouble getting over Rose. I admit, to start with I expected references to Rose but I think in this episode it got a bit ridiculous. Surely, as my fellow LJ dracothelizard pointed out, wouldn't the witches use the word Gallifrey to weaken the Doctor, rather than Rose?

Alas, the Whoniverse, esp RTD's version of it, is not known for logic!

The Whoniverse encompasses Doctor Who, Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures - it's the shorthand term for all three.

The opening of this episode is made of win for me - it clearly portrays all those little facets of Martha: her scientific curiosity (how does the TARDIS work), her SF-geekery (worry about standing on butterflies and killing her own grandfather), her acknowledgement that her skin colour might be an issue (and note how quickly the Doctor brushes that off, and then how it comes back to haunt Martha so much worse in HN/FoB). Her geekiness at the thought of meeting Shakespeare - and her dry sense of humour ("And then I could get sectioned ( ... )

I guess the Doc needs someone to give him a boost, but he also needed to give Martha a chance. She was offering information to him and when he was wishing Rose was there, they were at a point when they didn't know much.

Never mind, they still made a fab double act! :)

He definitely needed to give Martha a chance - he was ridiculously dismissive of her in that bed scene...

What, what, what?! I thought the rewatch for The Shakespeare Code wasn't until next weekend... I seem to remember it being the weekend of my birthday!

I haven't finished my short fic based on Smith & Jones yet!

I'm dazed and confused...
