What books/episodes inspire you to write 10/Martha?

I have been toying with starting my first ever Doctor Who fan-fic (I've written for other sci-fi fandoms before). I was wondering, since so many great writers post to this community, what episodes/books have really inspired you to write a 10/Martha story? For me, episode-wise it's "42", "Shakespeare Code" and of course "Blink". For novels, it's The ( Read more... )

Books: "Wetworld", "The Pirate Loop" and "Peacemaker".

Episodes: "Smith and Jones", "The Shakespeare Code", "42", "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood" and "Blink".

I've yet to write any fics actually set around S&J, but watching it made me want to write Martha. TSC inspired a brief series (Healing?), and the remaining four on that list have spawned a number of stories/series of varying lengths from Drabble-ish to epic-ish !

And "Reset" from Torchwood's Season 2 is my new jumping off point for post-S3 fic featuring Martha and various other characters.

Can't wait to read the Post S3 story inspired by 'Reset'. I've watched Smith & Jones so many times, but for some reason the plot bunnies never come to me the way do when I watch the later episodes.

I did have an idea for a missing scene fic for S&J but I've never yet done anything with it...

I can't believe I forgot Smith and Jones. It's non-stop shippiness, really, isn't it? With the kissing and the flirting and the let-me-seduce-you-aboard-my-timeship and the literal restarting of his hearts.

I really can't believe I forgot it. In fact, it's going to have to go right to the top of my rewatch pile.

Lazarus is probably my favourite Ten/Martha ep, for all the hugs, the explicit affirmations of his recognising her awesomeness and the pretty, pretty clothes. (I personally see Ten and Martha as a very Steed and Mrs Peel relationship, where the saving the world, the looking good doing it and the having fun together are all about equally important.)

Oh, OK, and the scene in the machine, which did in fact directly inspire me to write fic.

Books-wise, I love Last Dodo, but I'm generally a sucker for Jac Rayner's first person narratives (Earthworld and her Benny books are also favourites). Revenge of the Judoon isn't terribly shippy, but I do love its Martha-smitten guest star, Captain Carruthers. I just started Pirate Loop, today, as it happens; enjoying it so far.

In TLE, the scene in the machine and his comments about her shoes, quite inspirational. I forgot to add that to my original post.

And in The Pirate Loop, there's a great comment about her hair. Just perfect 10/Martha. After reading Persiflage_1's review of it, I just had to get it.

Teehee and me (well that scene combined with a comment from parrotfish set me off !)

TLE hasn't inspired me to write quite so many fics as the other episodes I mentioned, but I do love its vibe !

I haven't read any of the novels (woe!) but I freaking LOVE "42". When Martha is in the pod and the silent "I'll save you!" and the fact that there is no music at all... Chills. I also love TLE and I'm thinking about a "Blink"-inspired story.

Yes, that's a very spooky, awesome moment...

In that episode, his conviction when he says he is not going to lose her... I just keep thinking 'silly Ten! Tell her how you really feel.'

And the hug at the end after Martha has saved the day: perfection. There needed to be more of those hugs in S3 IMO.

There really, really did need to be more of those hugs... It's why I love this icon so much !

I would pick - Smith n Jones, Shakespears code, TLE, 42 and guys don't forget Gridlock!!! when Ten goes crazy trying to get Martha back when she is kidnapped!!

I was wondering which book is the most shippiest - The Last Dodo or Pirate Loop. I am just about to finish Wooden Heart (not very shippy) and I want another book!!

oh wow really. Is it a good book? I am on my uni break and I am thinking of buying it tomorrow. Could you tell me a little about it without giving it away? Is it a good story line?

Sure. Martha and the Doctor find themselves on board a spaceship that mysteriously disappeared. It's attacked by some badger faced pirates and the pair have to work (together and separately) to deal with the situation. There's some interesting skience involved and timey-wimey stuff too. And the ending is right up there for shippiness !

What a great question! I think there are writers and readers in the world and I certainly consider myself a reader. It's like if you cook something and you don't really have an appetite for it because you know what went into it ( ... )

Are you talking about this icon? That's David and Freema as themselves at the Radio Times covers party - every year the Radio Times (one of the oldest TV listings magazines in the UK) holds a party and invites along everyone who's been on the cover. My friend londonbeauty001 then replaced the photo of their cover with "Fic by Pers" so it looks like they're holding a book or something containing my stories...
