So, it snowed today. Not for long, and no accumulation or anything...but definite snow. It's such a Southern Ontario thing. You're taking your afternoon walk, and you look outside the window before you head out, and it's cold, a little breezy, but sunny. So, you head out, and five minutes into your walk, you see something tiny and white blowing in ( Read more... )

Well, assuming you have some trees nearby, you can have them go outside and collect leaves.

Science: You've got leaf shape and identification. You can show them what a maple leaf looks like, what an oak leaf looks like what a birch leaf looks like, etc. See how many they can get of each. Or you could do something about the seasons and trees.

Math: You could do a bar graph of how many of each color leaves they get, or you could cut the leaves in half and have them draw the other side to teach about symmetry. You can also get them to make simple patterns out of the leaves. Red-red-yellow, or maple-maple-oak.

Art: Leaf rubbings. Pop those leaves under some paper (rib side up) and have them rub over the top with crayons.

Language: Fall words. You can brainstorm fall words on the board and then have them write a story about fall with those words. I'm sure you have a ton of Language activities anyway.

What else do you teach?

yeah, I keep coming back to leaf rubbings. I just want a craft type deal. Leaf rubbibs are VERY popular on the ol' internets.

what is UP with your non-icon-age? Is it a rebellion?

Yes! Rebel! Rebel against the icon!!!

No, I've just been without my laptop. No making icons, no downloading icons, and graphics look horrible on this old piece of junk.

Craft-wise you can have them make leaf-collages, or tear up different colors of construction paper and trace and cut out a tree shape and make their own fall tree pictures...or instead of construction paper, you can make little squares of tissue paper in fall leaf colors, have them wrap them around the end of their pencils, dip the tip in some white glue, and decorate the trees that way...it looks really cool, and it's easy enough for the kids to do.

I'm sure I'll come up with more...

Did you get your jacket all washed?

I'm kinda jealous of the snow, but we're expecting some rain - so I'll live ;)

Well...okay...you see...that's probably not so much possible until Sunday, as the jacket is at the other house...so...I'm just waiting til then.

It's only a dusting anyway. We're not buried under it like Buffalo, NY is.

Though it is fun to see it flying outside the window.

Hey! Rain is good! Don't have to shovel the rain! :D
