Just now, Anna McCloy, wife of the lone survivor of that mine disaster somewhere in Appalachia, said the following on the Today Show:

"He's conversating very well."

'CONVERSATE' is not a word, you hillbilly!

Wow, I live in Texas, and even I know that "conversate" isn't a word. *grin*. Mabye you should send some of those "learn real words while you sleep" tapes.

I thiink that the use of "conversate" is not so much a "regional" thing . . . but more of a "stupid" thing. I've heard "the disadvantaged" in Washington, DC use it, too.
My biggest pet peeve is (at the moment) is when talking heads say, "Meantime . . . " NO. You may say "In the meantime . . . " or "Meanwhile . . . " As someone we are supposed to trust and respect, You do not get to pick and choose which grammar rules to follow as if you were at a vocabulary buffet.
