I own a good number of music books. I go out of my way to spend money on music books. However, there is some music one just CANNOT find in a book. It is this music that I search for online. Loss of any music will be sad.
I don't really search for music books... my main concern is that they're shutting down sites where people independently post simplified tabs, or what not. These aren't even accurate, and that's what bugs me.
If I were to post what I thought the tabs were to some classical guitar, could it be taken down because I'm preventing someone else from publishing the "proper tabulature" for the song? Their argument is that taking down the free tabs ensures that the songs will stay accurate because people won't download the incorrect ones, but it seems to me to be a contrived reason to try and force people to pay to get the sheets.
If financial issues are such a concern, why doesn't the MPAA post them online and run ads to make money? Since they'd be accurate, they'd get so much more hits than other sites... but they're taking the approach of preserving their current cash structure instead of the synergistic view towards these things, I suppose.
