[The camera clicks on to show... some guy. He kinda looks like Rock -- and judging from all the machiney-technological-fancy-pants crap in the background, he's in Rock's room. Did puberty strike our beloved super fighting robot with a vengeance? How can this beeeee?]

Okay, that should do it. Don't mind if I'm a little rusty... I can barely even ( Read more... )

Dr. Light's creations? So you came from Capcom Academy too? Or...

I knew he built robots but I never got to meet too many of them there.

Yeah, I was enrolled at Capcom before I came here. I... had a hard time staying around for long, though, so I can't blame you for not meeting me. Maverick Hunters tend not to get a lot of vacation time.

I'm guessing that you were a Capcom student too, then?

Well, hey, it's pleased to meet you now!

Sure was, I'm Ema Skye.

The pleasure's all mine, Ema. Dr. Light's got high hopes for this exchange project, so let's both do our best to give everyone here a good impression of Capcom High, alright?

[Oh, robots? Cream's familiar with those. Mostly bad, a few good...

This guy looks good, though!]

Hi, Mr. X! I'm Cream. Welcome to Smash Academy! [You get a happy rabbit on your screen.] What's a Maverick Hunter?

[Oh my gosh a happy rabbit. Just look at how cute that bunny is. Just look at it.]

Oh, just X is fine. Mr. X makes me sound like some kind of shadowy mystery man, don't you think? Maverick Hunters are... sort of like the police, except we don't go after living things. Any robots who break the rules back home and put humans in danger get the Hunters after them.

[BUT IT'S POLITE-- aww well okay.]

There's lots of robots where you come from? It's good that there's something to stop the bad ones! We have bad robots where I come from too, but there's a few good ones!

It'd be even nicer if we didn't have bad ones at all, but I suppose there's no avoiding that sort of thing when you're allowed to choose for yourself. It's lucky you've got some nice ones back home, too. What are they like?

[Oh boy oh man here he comes. X isn't sure whether this is a "cool big brother" thing to do or "dorky little brother" thing, honestly, but he can't help smiling as he turns to the door.

Here it is, Rock: that empty half of the room's been decked out with equipment not unlike yours. A vaguely bed-esque recharge pod, all the basic neccessities for armor upkeep, and a whole bunch of fancy future technobabble junk. This room probably has a zillion electrical outlets.

And smack-dab in the middle of it? The little-older-brother that left way-too-suddenly to go fight another of them wacky wars way-too-long-ago.]

...Surprise?

Okay.

Lemme question you before you get into the team.

Do fireworks scare you?

[Thanks to Ron DeWoobie, this is now a Very Important Question.]

Fireworks? Uh... no. I wouldn't have lasted long as a Hunter if I was scared of flashy lights or explosions, that's for sure.

Good.

Then I already have an idea for your first job. [Juuuuuust a suggestion.]

First of all, name's Goose, one of the oldest guards. Second...

We've got a newbie guard who needs a little toughening up.

So you're the one I'll be answering to? It's nice to meet you, then.

I'll be glad to help out in any way that I can, but... I think you're gonna have to explain this one to me. What do you mean, toughening up?

Huh... another Robot made by this Dr. Light guy, huh? From the future? That's pretty impressive, pal.

I've met Rock. He's really cool - You guys must be kind of like siblings almost, huh?

Oh! I'm Knuckles, by the way. Knuckles the Echidna. If you need any help finding your way around or whatever, feel free to ask me.

angst_rockarms October 31 2011, 03:40:47 UTC
Yeah, I guess you could call him my older brother. It sounds a little odd, doesn't it? Robots having family isn't even that common in my time -- I've only run across it twice, honestly.

[Knuckles Echidna... no relation to Armored Armadillo, he hopes.]

Nice to meet you, Knuckles. I'll keep that offer in mind.

[Armored Armadillo is Knuckles' Robot Great Grandson.]

Eh. The way he explained it, you guys are designed and built to be pretty Human, right? So, really, it just makes sense you'd develop Families and stuff. That's a big part of being... well. Any sentient species.

Nice to meet you too!

[What is the proper etiquette for saying "sorry I exploded your Robot Great Grandson"? Flowers? A nice fruit basket?]

Yeah, you've got a point. Even if most reploids I know don't have the luxury of sibling-bots, there are still friends, lovers, Hunter units... everyone's got somebody. I suppose as long as we've got DNA, we've even got the potential to have "kids". It'd have to be a lot more roundabout than the typical biological species, though. ...But probably just about as expensive, ha.
