ALL DAY ERRY DAY badasscopters March 25 2011, 23:46:08 UTC
Haha sparkles. Haha festivals. Haha treats- well okay, maybe not that last part.

Goose reclined up inside of the trees, enjoying the pretty cherry blossoms and eating cotton candy, elephant ears, nachos, and other such things from vendors.

Not exactly the traditional way of celebrating, but whatever.

[Of course, Goose wasn't going to be that giving. Even he has his info that he preferred to keep under lock and key. If something happened to his precious lover and he didn't know what (or knew and didn't want to disclose), he didn't want everyone talking about his possible death.

He wasn't going to do that to Raikov. He shook his head.]

I... kinda can't talk about that, kid. Sorry. Kinda personal. [Not for him, but ooh, time to be vague~]

[Ah, so this is important. Matthew's appetite for knowledge has been piqued. He's gone with the naive but curious persona though, so he can't do much to press the point right now. He can dig a tad deeper though.

He sets up an apologetic look, retaining the shock and adds a healthy dose of concern.]

I didn't mean to intrude, sir. I'm just concerned. You made it sound as if there could be something dangerous about.

[This will probably only get him more vague statements, perhaps a reassurance that nothing is wrong. It certainly won't get him anything definitive. He'll have to see if he can find records of the previous cooking teacher and what happened.]

Sounds like a good reason, kid. I'd tell you if I could, but... eh.

[Goose shook his head with a frown. Hook, line, and sucker, as he felt Matthew was genuine. He appreciated the kid's concern and admired it. At least of all students, he was actually decent, so it seemed.

Goose readjusted himself on the tree to fold his leg straight up. He then leaned forward, an arm slung over the knee.]

There ain't nothing dangerous right now, nothing that I know would've done him harm here. It kinda... can get nasty, though.

[He paused for a brief moment before continuing.]

You know what happened when just about everyone in the school went batshit?

[That's going to be a rude awakening when Goose finds him riffling through his stuff then. Psssh, he won't get caught. He's glad that Goose isn't suspicious, but he's inwardly disappointed a little as he gets the comforting statement he was expecting.

But then Goose elaborates. Splendid. Matthew leans in conspiratorially, shaking his head a little as his eyes widened ever so slightly.]

No sir, I don't. What happened?

[Yes, yes. Tell him ~everything~. He's here to listen, buddy.]

It's kinda... hm.

[Oh, Matthew, you are going to get quite a story.]

People everywhere went batshit. Some changed into evil bastards, some were making crazy claims, and some were just insane outta their minds. Some just did complete 180s. Y'know, the works. No one was like themselves.

[He frowned. He wasn't sure if he wanted to mention his own robot attack escapades. Probably not.]

That's only the half of what this school does, too. Sometimes, it's made people change sexes, go younger, trick them into thinking they're poisoned, and all kinds of stuff like that.

[This is extremely valuable for him to know. He shifts on his branch, conveying a sense of unease, no acting required. What's being described sounds almost like...a berserk staff, but far more intricate and powerful.]

But...who is responsible for all this, and how? I didn't know that kind of magic even existed.

[But if it does he wants it. Or at the very least to make sure that whoever was controlling it had no plans to be expansionist in the near future.]

The problem's that no one knows. It just... kinda happens. Shit like this and time traveling's kinda common. Plus, we've had alien invasions here before, and it wound up causing one of the craziest wars in this city.

I'd know. I was there.

[And by there, he meant directly on the battlefield instead of just some witness.]

Well what about the giant hand-thing? Isn't it in charge here? Doesn't it notice or care that such odd thing happen?

I-I mean a war. That sounds serious.

[The quiver in his voice there is deliberate, but his eyes are conveying all the sadness of watching from the sidelines as his big bro was carted off to fight a war that their poor peasant family neither knew the cause of or cared about. He is ready should this conversation take a foray into questioning his past.

The non-fictional part of him is of course considering the obvious solution that Masterhand is in fact responsible for the shenanigans, but he's not going to say anything on that until he looks into this more. Who knows, maybe if he hints at it, he'll find out about Goose's own thoughts on the matter.]

[Goose nodded.]

I dunno about everything else, but he's helped out in the war. He even fought in the war. I think. Kinda badass, that.

[He sharply glared down at his snacks, memories rearing their ugly heads as he recalled that vicious battlefield, the tearing and wearing of buildings, the lives lost... It was all terrible.

Of course, the worst of it was when he remembered that thing. That swirling, red abyss that the Aparoid Queen transformed into. That mass was... a mindfuck.]

It got real bad, though. Lots of killing. The city was a wreck for months, too.

[Well that indicated that Masterhand was probably not behind that particular incident. It didn't rule him (her? it?) out completely, but it made this situation more complex.

He can see that Goose is reliving some pretty bad memories. He has his own, the campaign to defeat Nergal had been far from bloodless, but Matthew the farm boy had no such experience. He puts on a worried face, a face that sees pain but doesn't understand it, and reaches out to pat Goose on the shoulder.]

At least things look alright now? I wouldn't have known this place had seen such violence if you hadn't told me.

[He will definitely be searching for records of this ordeal however. This is potentially vital information.]

[Goose managed a smirk at the pat on the shoulder. That felt... comforting, even from a man he knew so little of. While their first encounter was less than a good first impression, the future impressions were proving to be more than pleasant.

He gave a pat in return.]

Yeah, it's all good. I'll be trying to protect this place the best I can, kid. No matter what.

[He could keep digging for information right now, but he feels he's got a good start, and he doesn't want to seem like he's prying. He can snoop about later, but for now building a good relationship with Goose is also important.

He gives the other a reassured smile, and settles back onto his own branch.]

I'm glad sir. It's nice to know someone's looking out for everyone. I doubt I'd fair so well in a war.

[And that's...fairly true actually. As fast as he may be, he's really not the strongest around. He did fine in his own war, but he far prefers to be off the front lines.]

Well, hey, if you need a bodyguard, I've got some nice skill...

[He may have subconsciously tightened his muscles for a moment. His arms were noodles, yes, but they were surprisingly tough with his Birdman wings on. Like Matthew, however, he relied on speed more than strength.]

So you just say the word. I like you, kid. Wouldn't mind being your wingman, if you know what I mean.

[Goose working for him? The concept is amusing to Matthew the spy, and unthinkable to Matthew the peasant.]

Well that's hardly fitting sir! You're very gracious to offer to protect a commoner such as myself, but if anything I should be pledging my sword to you, however little good it would do.

[He smiles though, and looks almost sheepish.]

... I hope that means literally, because if you can use a sword, you're even more badass than I thought.

[HE IS SO HOPING THAT IS LITERAL because oh man awesome guys with swords. That was just. Awesome. Matthew, can you feel his pure and utter glee?]
