[This is when you show your own weapons that you want to use instead, or when you take a wooden sword (like a bamboo kendo one). DON'T WHACK OTHER PEOPLE WITH IT. HE WILL SEE YOU.
HOW TO HOLD A SWORD. A few exercises. crimsongamblerDecember 5 2010, 19:14:14 UTC
Alright guys, here's how you're supposed to hold the thing. [He demonstrates with the wooden sword, outlining the hand position. Sticking to the more standard style of swordsmanship that he had learned instead of one with his own flair, it made more sense that way (plus it would be interesting to see how his students would adapt to it).]
Got it? [He shows it around a few times, moving his wrists around for more angles. Then he swings it forward once, direct and simple.]
It's a slash, pretty simple innit? [He swings again for 4 or so more times, trying to go slowly with it, before stopping and setting the sword point onto the floor - slightly leaning onto the hilt.]

[Well, that sounded simple enough. Executing it, however, wasn't quite as easy as he took it for. The heaviness of the sword for him made his hand shake as he performed each slash. He didn't wind up cutting anything he shouldn't (including, thank god, himself), but the cuts were pretty wobbly.]

::Max picks up a wooden sword::
::Oops, Max held it so tight that it sort of splintered in his hands::
::Good thing he was wearing his gloves!::
You got any swords that don't break when you pick 'em up?
Reply
You can't hold it lighter? Don't need brute strength for these, you know.

Yeah, alright. I'll try.
::Max goes in to get another one::
::He holds it less well::
