But alone he was not, as Falcon had totally been in this very bar for a whole seven minutes before Snake showed up, thank you very much. After the events of the past week or so, the Captain was finding that he had an increasingly strong desire to have some good old-fashioned alone time. There was no better place to have some good old-fashioned alone time than at a bar with a glass of indeterminate alcohol.

So when he saw Snake walk in the door he couldn't help but groan inwardly. It wasn't any fault of the mercenary's, of course. Final Destination only had so many bars--but figures they'd pick the same one. He sat at the other end of the bar and sipped his drink slowly, anticipating the awkward times that were sure to come.

In the meantime, however, he'd keep to himself.

It took Snake a little bit-- a few more drinks-- to realize that the morphy brown shape in his peripheral vision was familiar. It had a black streak across the top of it. This black streak was sunglasses.

Oh. It was Falcon.

If he could, Snake would have slumped in his seat just a tiny bit, but he was sure that the other man knew he was there, and also he was sitting on a stool. So, that was out of the question. But, he was lucky that he hadn't really made any kind of grand gesture to give his newfound knowledge away, so he settled for slowly turning his head to the side as if just sort of looking around, pretend-spotting Falcon, and giving him a simple nod, just to let him know that now, he also knew. No need to engage without a little more liquid persuasion.

He studied Snake for a few moments, thankful for his sunglasses which made it nearly impossible for anyone else to tell where he was looking at any given moment.

Falcon liked that.

For a moment he thought the mercenary would be too absorbed in his drink to notice someone sitting at the other end of the bar, but such was not the case. He nodded back in acknowledgment, and then in one terribly depressing moment, he realized that neither of them were going to get out of this without an exchange of words and subsequent awkward. It was just a matter of who caved first.

It was a while, but Snake knew it would come to this at some point. A couple drinks turned into a couple more, and he realized that people were beginning to filter out of the bar little by little. Damn, it was a little later than he realized. Snake grimaced and ordered another drink, stealing a glance at the other man. It looked like Falcon was planning on sticking around for the long haul, too. Shit. He took a breath.

"... Rough day?"

It was just too awkward to sit in silence like this. And the awkwardness was something he was pretty tired of dealing with.

Falcon felt a small triumph in knowing that he was not the one to cave, but he couldn't help but groan inwardly at what was sure to be incoming awkward. To keep pretending Snake was not there would be rude even for the Captain. There was no avoiding a direct address.

Still, he thought about what his answer would be before he opened his mouth, delaying speech by knocking back his current drink. Rough? Sure, maybe. The day had been just fine, he'd just needed some time to himself after the events of recent days.

"I wouldn't say rough. What about you?"
