The bird Pokémon looked at Gold as he approached. Arceus turned around to properly greet him. It had been a few weeks since they had last conversed, and she could easily sense his thoughts about the upcoming weeks.

Gold, she began. I see you've returned. Her voice was gentle in his mind. Forgive me, I was catching the news from the different regions. It pointed its head towards the largest one. He brought news from your hometown.

That whole talking-in-his-head thing was a little weird. This wasn't the first time a Pokemon had spoken to him telepathically, but it still managed to be a little unsettling.

When she finished, Gold shifted again. He rubbed his hands against his arms feverishly to warm himself up. "Yeah. Ah, don't worry about it," he replied, idly kicking snow around himself. "I wasn't expecting to see you here. Kind of a pleasant surprise," he continued.

He paused, looking over the Pidgeots again. "Twinleaf? What about it?" he asked, curiously.

Arceus tilted her head.

Apparently your mother made a pie today. Apple Crisp.

She was rather amused at the news. Pidgeots were not exactly the best Pokémon to get the world news from, apart if you where a huge fan of sweets.

Gold couldn't help but crack a smile. "Apple crisp," he repeated, slowly. "That sounds good right about now," he admitted, widening his grin.

He took a few steps- a little more confident now- toward the gaggle of Pokemon. "Aren't they cold? This isn't exactly weather for Pidgeots." He frowned concernedly, holding his hand out towards the Pidgeot Arceus had previously motioned to.

The bird flew off and landed on the boy's shoulder. It seemed to demand a rub under the chin.

They would normally, she explained, but as long as they are close to me, they are fine. It was true. The area around her seemed much warmer than the colder weather, like a small self-containing ecosystem. They are going to return to their homes shortly.

She thought back at his mention of Apple Crisp. Perhaps...

I could bake some for you if you'd like. Unless you'd rather get it from your mother... she trailed off, hoping Gold would get at what she meant.
