Hermione didn't have any kid emo to worry about, which she thought was a really good thing, timingwise. It meant she was able to concentrate on what she was doing: wondering how she'd accumulated so much stuff over the last two years

Ron was on his way to his room when he saw that the door across the hall was open and peeked in to see what was going on.

"Are you going someplace?" Said Ron asking the most obvious question in the world.

Hermione quit trying to reach into the trunk to rearrange some things for the moment, not really wanting to say this. "I'm going to be going home for the summer," she said, and added, "Maybe longer."

"Why? What's happening now?" Ron asked looking concerned.

She shook her head. "Something happens at the end of the year, every year. And every year it gets worse," she explained. "It makes more sense to be there in case- or when- something does, where I'm closer."

"Hiya," Rikku said, bouncing in and taking in the huge trunk. "You headed home for break?"

"I am," Hermione said, considering what to do with old homecoming dresses. "Maybe longer."

Rikku frowned, taking a seat on her bed. "The ... war that's going on, in your home. It's worse?"

"I don't know," she admitted. "But I'm expecting it to. And I shouldn't really be here if and when it does. I might be back in the fall, though."
