Dean had been waiting for Alec to wake up for days. It wasn't helping his sleep patterns any -- not that he cared, but he sat there. And he waited. And it seemed like forever.

Alec hadn't deserved this. He was doing it to save his sorry ass, and while Dean knew logically -- objectively -- the right choice had been made, it was even harder to swallow that when it was your kid. He couldn't even do anything on this one, just let the doctors do their job and wait to see what happened.

When he heard a sound coming from the direction of the bed, his head snapped up, looking towards the body on the bed for some sign of life. He relaxed almost completely when he saw that Alec's eyes were open, and gave him a small smile. He wasn't better, not completely, but at least he was waking up a bit.

"Hey, kid," he said with a sigh. "Just take it easy -- you've been through lot."

He blinked at Dean a few times. The words took a minute to assimulate. His fingers curled and relaxed and he managed to like his lips. Mouth still felt like glue, but it felt like he'd actually acomplished some thing. "Wha?" He coughed, and wished, really wishes he hadn't.

"What happened?" Dean asked, raising an eyebrow slightly as he looked him over in concern, seeing the pain that he was in. "Alloces turned your internal organs to pudding."

Dean wanted to ask him why he didn't say something about how badly he was beaten up, but he knew that now wasn't the time.

"You needed surgery. They managed to fix most of it, but you gotta take it easy, okay?"

"Bad?" Because apparently one word sentences were as much as he could manage. And he knew there were other questiosn to ask, but he couldn't think of them right then. He felt like his veins were filled with lead.
