The Princess Birthday Ball

The huge, white tent sprawls on the lawn beside the lake. It has been transfigured there for a very special occasion. A stone walkway leads from the bar to the tent - the pavements are wide enough that ladies' dresses won't trail on the ground as they make their way to the entrance. Over the draped curtains of the entrance way is a large banner ( Read more... )

Amy is around, busy in auxiliary hostess mode -- making sure everyone is comfortable and happy, checking in with Tom and Ingress, changing records on a giant Gramophone so that there's always something playing for the dancers. (Tom showed her how to work the Gramophone this afternoon and she finds it one of the most delightful things she's ever encountered.)

Feel free to catch her at any of her tasks, or between them. She'd no doubt love to say hello.

Logan looks nice, doesn't he? The arrogant crown is perched on his head, and he really does look pretty good in it. "Like it? I have to say, it's pretty much the most arrogant thing I've ever worn. I'm not sure I can live up to it, sadly."

Amy sweeps him an absurdly grand curtsey. "You are, I suspect, my lord, one of the few people who could pull it off with quite so much . . . style."

She straightens up and hugs him. "Hello, Logan. I'm glad you could make it."

"That's me, a GQ man all the way," he says, grinning. He bows, then takes her hand kisses it. "You look quite stylish yourself, milady. Don't tell me you made your own gown. It must have come from the finest couture house in Paris."

Amy's smile is very bright.

"Of course I made it," she says, smoothing the silvery grey dress automatically. "Susan -- Susan Pevensie -- showed me how to use a sewing machine. It was ever so much quicker than sewing by hand. And the shawl was a gift from Tom and Door."

"It's beautiful," he says. "And I'd tell you you're looking beautiful, too, but I doubt you'd believe me, so I'll compliment your handiwork instead."

"Well, I'd believe you were being kind," says Amy, laughing.

"And how are you this evening, Logan?"

"Splendid," he says. "I've been looking forward to this party for ages, and I'm glad I didn't miss it. I was afraid Bar would kick me out."

"Well, then I'm very glad you didn't do anything to annoy her. We'd have missed you, had you not come. Did you get a chance to greet Ingress?"

"Me too," he says. "And yeah, I did. I gave her my favorite princess story, a movie called Roman Holiday. You should watch it with her. I think you'd like it, rather. Though the princess in it isn't as smart as you."

"Perhaps we will make it one of our princess lessons," says Amy, laughing. "We can try to figure out how she could have been cleverer.

"You'll save me a dance, won't you, Logan? I promise not to kick you, even if you step on my toe and curse."

"Sounds like an excellent idea," he says, grinning. "Of course I'll save you a dance, and I promise to avoid your feet at all costs, but I appreciate the peace offering."

"Marvelous," she says. "I shall look forward to it, especially if my feet will be safe."

She's had to dance with some bad dancers in her day, really.

And Logan's not that bad. He bows again and moves off to mingle.

A rather-smaller than the average prince shows up after a moment and offers her a bow.

"Greetings, Lady. You are assisting the e'dal Lady in hosting?"

Amy sweeps a very formal curtsey in response.

"I am," she says, straightening with a smile. "I'm Amy."
