[Alice is far too self- sacrificing to want Millie to have to shoulder this burden. So she's tried to get to the milk every morning before the girl woke up. Most of the time, it worked. On the first day, she'd died a rather painful death from fortified poison. But becasue of that, she'd overslept the next day. The day after that, she'd been lucky.
