I needed a new eyeshadow palette -- I've hit pan in 3 out of 4 colors in my current one, and out of those 3, 2 are almost completely gone. So, no, it wasn't to have a pretty -- it was to use. I actively avoid collecting makeup (although I guess I do collect nail polish to a degree) because of the pretty factor -- I would get obsessed too easily. In fact, this palette was part of a fairly good-sized order, and I feel guilty for getting some things that I can't say that I need, so I'm making returns next Monday. Dior palettes are very pretty, though, it's true. Maybe the prettiest out of all the HE brands.

That's basically what I've been telling myself. There's still a part of me, though, that feels the palette should have been perfect, due to the cost. And I can't get a second replacement because the palette is now out of stock. Someone else on the MUA boards had the same thing happen -- the palette was just in a plastic bag and thrown into the shipping box, and hers exploded all over the place as well. So it would seem Nordstrom has a bit of a problem in their shipping division or something.

Wowzer - I'm surprised they don't know how to package it better so that this doesn't happen.

I was really surprised -- Nordstrom is usually far more reliable than this. To fling a 5 pan eyeshadow palette unprotected into a box, and then ship it without any packaging is really rather dumb. Of course the eyeshadow is going to explode all over the place! I think this time I'll take it to Nordstrom in person and do an exchange that way.

The above comment is from me -- I don't know why it anonymized it!

Gah, I hate when that happens. It does seem like some brands of eye shadow are really flaky, in the worst sense of the word. Worse yet, flaky and expensive. Definitely try to get a pristine one or else a refund.

Well, I honestly can't fault the eyeshadow in this instance. It was put only in a plastic bag for protection and then put into the box for shipping. Without appropriate packing material, it doesn't surprise me in the least that it tumbled around the box until the eyeshadow shattered and leaked out all over the place. If it were a Maybelline or Wet n Wild palette, I would have been mildly annoyed, but could've easily gotten a replacement. But this palette is a limited edition product, was not inexpensive, and can only be bought through Nordstrom. I could certainly ask for a second replacement, but, naturally, they are now totally out of stock! *facedesk* See what happens when I branch out from my M*A*C?

Oh my God! I'm so sorry that happened. OTOH, that was clever of you to save the remnants of the shadows and mix them up into a whole new color. Knock on wood, I have never dropped a palette or eyeshadow single, but I have in the past broken pans of eyeshadow by depotting them too roughly. It's too bad, really, because some of them are brand new and have never been used, but they look rough around the edges and little pieces of shadow continue to break off.

Like I said to Anne up above, I honestly can't blame the shadow in this instance -- I think it was the lack of appropriate packing material that caused the palette to bounce around in transit and ultimately shatter. Nordstrom should know better.
