I haven't posted in awhile, and have like three new fics I need to add but... I don't know. I used to love it here but lately it just isn't the same. Maybe I need to get more involved in communities. I'm trying out Tumblr, but while it does feed my fandom urges, it's not really interactive in the same way LJ is. I want to discuss movies and ( Read more... )

tl;dr I understand what you mean. How do we fix it? graycie23 September 28 2012, 00:24:32 UTC
Hi! Congrats to you for inspiring my first real comment in, well, ages and ages. But I was just thinking about this today-tumblr almost makes fandom too easy, doesn't it? Lots of people and lots of thoughts, but it's like...drive-by fandom. I don't know why LJ is dead, but it is. I am only on here really for the tv/movie communities, because that's how I watch a lot of stuff ( ... )

Yeah, I do like Tumblr, but I can literally go on and just like a dozen things without really participating, which is what I miss. It's good for finding things, but not really for interacting with everyone ( ... )

Wooot!

I stopped LJ pretty much when I moved back to CO form Boston. I just...didn't have much to say. Sometime this year I started a blog that I've never written in. I have an e-mail chain with myself that has about 20 different ideas in it.

In the meantime, I am obsessed with Downton Abbey. I don't know how it happened. I haven't been this fangirly about anything since Harry Potter, and that's saying something. I think it's because I'm sort of unhappy in real life, but that's a different post for a different time.

I have about 12 books on my shelf but I've been reading fanfic, which pretty much ruins my attention span for real books, unfortunately. I started Paris in Love, which is about Hemingway's first wife. It's fiction though, and first person, and so far really good.

If only I could get off twitter and tumblr long enough to finish it...

But tonight I'm watching Homeland instead.

In unrelated news, I really need to go to the gym!

I've tried to blog outside of LJ and I never keep it going. I stopped writing fanfic for awhile, so less LJ, and when I did start back I've been using AO3 with I like a lot.

But, OMG Downton Abbey! I also love that show. tripp3235 got me hooked on it and it is amazing. Who are your favorites? I do love Matthew and Mary, but find myself feeling really bad for Edith all the time and hoping she gets some kind of happiness.

I've broken down and got a Nook, which has only enabled my habit of buying a ton of books and moving through them at the speed of backwards! Paris in Love sounds good. I'm considering picking up JK Rowling's newest book.

I've heard Homeland is excellent, but we don't have Showtime! Although, we did get HBO almost exclusively to watch Game of Thrones, which I also adore!

In equally unrelated news, I need to go to the gym, too! LOL -- I'm going to Zumba tomorrow, which should be fun. I hope.

Hi there!

I've gotten on Tumblr only for RP purposes, which is a bit more difficult than LJ/DW. Conversations are SO HARD, and I don't like it for those. It seems like most ppl seem to take the conversations off to IM or Twitter. Tumblr isn't really built to have in depth fandomy conversations. :(

I haven't really gotten around to reading much Avengers fic because my RL blew up, but I still pick at writing Inception fic and at some point in the near future I will be published! Yay! I think that's all that's new with me since last we talked. :D

Yay for real life! I think it has slowed down my fandom obsession, a bit, but I miss the talking! And yeah, Tumblr doesn't cut it for me. I found some good fics and pics and stuff, but you can't really interact with anyone. I do actually like Twitter for chatting, which LJ never quite did right, but it's not the same.

Also -- congrats on getting published! That is huge! :D

I never liked the idea of Twitter if only because I am a wordy creature and the thought of condensing things to 140 characters didn't appeal to me. :)

I'm so excited! and it's just the thing to distract me from the oral boards this weekend, which makes me a bit nervous since I won't know the results for a few more weeks. It's threesome vampire porn, so there ought to be a few readers out there for it. ;)

The 140 limit makes you creative! The inability to correct typos makes me nuts though!

OMG -- I don't even know how you'd sleep at night. I haven't grown the nerve to try my own stuff. And yes, I think you will find an audience for that, no problem! It hasn't ever been my thing, but I will read your threesome vampire porn, without a doubt! :)

I've been feeling the same way about LJ. I refuse to give it up because I just love it too much, but it doesn't work as well if you're not up in a community or two (at least that's how I feel). At present, I'm finishing up with my last fandom, and waiting for my next one to come along.

Yeah, I don't want to give it up either... I'm sad, because the comms I loved are dead or in the throes of death... and I don't have it in me to promote or create a comm and I really miss the discussion of fandom more than anything.

Avengers -- I'm just going to throw that out there. There's your next fandom. ;)

But seriously, I know... I'm kind of disappointed in television lately, because that's my favorite kind of fandom and there's just nothing...

Agreed. I also miss the fandom discussions. My last fandom, House, is trying to do rewind discussions where everyone is watching the series over again from the start and discussing each episode each week, but so far I've had trouble keeping up with it. I've been mostly watching the episodes, but I just don't seem to have the time to get on the discussion, and when I do, I feel I just don't have much to add. What I really miss is the discussions that would happen while the episode was airing for the first time. That's a lot of fun.
