I'm a big believer in the theory that if/when it happens on the show, it'll be slow, over a few years, and I kind of enjoy that idea.

I really like how you wrote this as almost a series of vignettes. It's cool when you have a story that starts in the middle and backtracks so you get to see how the person got to that point, and the reader is still left uncertain as to how it all is going to end. Quite a few moments made me smile, because you wrote them both so in-character.

He sits there and waits for her to continue. When she doesn’t, he prompts, “I’m not sure what part of that statement I’m supposed to reply to or in what form.”

“A nice ‘okay’ would work.”

“Oh. Okay.”At first I didn't know how to feel about the ending, because I expected something more climactic. But now, after mulling over it a few minutes, I think it works because all along, Sheldon and Penny had been progressing towards this change in their relationship, or rather, Penny realizing it, and so it makes sense for them to just slip into this new paradigm

The ending isn't the ending that I envisioned. It's an ending that I can rationalize to myself however, and as you said it works because they kind of already were at this point, to a degree, it's just the realization and acknowledgment of it that's different.

I totally just enjoyed the heck out of this. You know how sometimes, you sort of forget how awesome and delightful your OTP can be, and then you just get hit by a little detail in a great story and it all comes rushing back? Why you love them and how they work and all that?

This was it for me, just now:

But no, when she says she woke up she means that she got out of bed that morning, discovered that she was out of coffee, walked across the hall into the boys’ apartment (which, by this point, was really singular, but more on that later) without knocking, and only went as far as the counter before Sheldon was handing her the coffee without a word. Then she walked out and back into her apartment.

GOD, I ADORE THAT. AND I CAN JUST SEE HIS VAGUELY EXASPERATED/SEKRITLY-IN-LOVE FACE.

And by the way, I know exactly what you mean about the details hitting you just right. It happens to me all the time in fic. That's why I love it so much.
