Shannon, when written right can be a very sympathetic character. The show just never bothered to go there until they killed her off.
And yes, I'm friendable. I love getting new people on my flist, especially lately since I'm on more often, and incredibly bored. Anyways, that's a yes, and I'm friending you back.

So true! Jack will find your occult spinal tumor and remove it without so much as a nick to the tissue, but might choose not to see the polar bear barrelling down on him. (He's had that problem a lot recently.) Sawyer really does see everything and then just file it away silently in case it's ever useful, doesn't he?
My feeling about Shannon is that there was no guiding logos for her characterization at all, so that the sympathy-inducing moments and the total-bitch moments seemed to be a jarring juxtapositon, rather than multiple facets of a complex character. It was very easy to despise her in one episode and pity her in the next, but canon didn't leave us a lot of room to see her as a single persona who could be either detestable or pitiable. Fortunately, we've got fanfic to remedy the situation... ;)
