They stop trying to kid themselves about this being just a fling right around the time Kate blows Sawyer off when he asks if she wants company on one of her food finding missions, and then takes Shannon instead of him. She could feel his eyes on their retreating backs; see the confused expression he wore. And she laughed when she ( Read more... )

Excellent fic! You've captured Kate and Shannon in all their screwed-up brilliance, especially as it pertains to relationships. Initially the pairing struck me as a hard one to buy, but you've really pulled it off. Kate's need to play Jack and Sawyer off against each other, Shannon's justification for conning Boone out of money that he gladly would have given to her, Sawyer's clueing in and Jack's cluelessness, the way the two of them dealt with their emotional interactions with each other and everyone else, how they'd handle Kate's inexperience and Shannon's... non-inexperience - it all worked perfectly. You even induced a few inklings of sympathy for Shannon in me, which takes a lot of work.

Anyway, I was thoroughly impressed. Are you friend-able?

It is an unbelievable pairing. At first. But apparently I like challenges. And Jack sometimes doesn't seem to see what's right in front of him, whereas Sawyer does and chooses to ignore it. I still love them both.

Shannon, when written right can be a very sympathetic character. The show just never bothered to go there until they killed her off.

And yes, I'm friendable. I love getting new people on my flist, especially lately since I'm on more often, and incredibly bored. Anyways, that's a yes, and I'm friending you back.

Thanks for reading!

And Jack sometimes doesn't seem to see what's right in front of him, whereas Sawyer does and chooses to ignore it.

So true! Jack will find your occult spinal tumor and remove it without so much as a nick to the tissue, but might choose not to see the polar bear barrelling down on him. (He's had that problem a lot recently.) Sawyer really does see everything and then just file it away silently in case it's ever useful, doesn't he?

My feeling about Shannon is that there was no guiding logos for her characterization at all, so that the sympathy-inducing moments and the total-bitch moments seemed to be a jarring juxtapositon, rather than multiple facets of a complex character. It was very easy to despise her in one episode and pity her in the next, but canon didn't leave us a lot of room to see her as a single persona who could be either detestable or pitiable. Fortunately, we've got fanfic to remedy the situation... ;)

I'm very honoured to have you as a mutual friend. Thanks again for sharing; this is really lovely.

Beautiful fic. You capture both characters so well and this fic just works for them. I'm so glad to see Kate/Shannon fic (it's been so long!) since they were probably my first Lost femslash pairing.

Thank you! (And I think I vaguely remember reading your fic when I took over and reorganized). It has been way too long since someone has writing this pairing.

You're welcome! Oh really? Hooray! I think I might try to rework my Kate/Shannon fic sometime if my muse ever comes back or if I can just give the time to it. But yes, it has definitely been way too long.

Well I for one would be highly interested in seeing what you could do, so I'll look forward to reading it.
