I agree, the one with the ribbon (though I would not have recognized the Thames had you not said it) is MUCH more appealing.

The one I linked to isn't the bid logo; I think it's a bit more (similarly?) clever (yes, shouldn't get to clever for the masses), but it does make sure of the full Olympic color palette, which effectively limits you to a white background.

I noted the original BBC article said that it would evolve over time. I'll withhold judgment on that plan. I see you're in advertising -- have you seen it? (Are you responsible?)

yep i have seen it all - i am not responsible (i met that very nice man yesterday) - but will be using it as an agency that does some online comms for london 2012 (LOCOG).

but i would get shot if i mentioned it all.

I really didn't think anything could be worse than the Atlanta mascot. I was wrong. Someone referred to the this logo as "Lisa Simpson giving head." I have to say, they have a point...
