I grew-up Mormon, and the church was always a big part of my life.  But as a natural-born skeptic, I didn't really believe in it for most of my years.

Then, at age 18, I dove into it deep… accepted Jesus, and even gave-up two years of my life to preach it abroad.  Now I look back and wonder... how could I have been so fucking blind?

for some reason, i was never angry at the church when i left. it's like i skipped that step. i just understood that well-meaning people passed along a disease they thought was the cure. somewhere in its origins was an insane mutated germ that got out of control, and i'm grateful that the braver of us were able to use an antidote ( ... )

Good points... (and, good to know where you're at now!)

It is definitely worth noting that most Mormons are well-intentioned, and are just trying to do the right thing.

It's also worth noting that they do teach some good lessons... family, health, etc.

I had no idea we were cousins in Jesus -- I was raised Jehovah's Witness. I never "pioneered," but my brother did, for years.

I'm glad you were able to see the man behind the curtain, Mike. It's a huge step leaving religion behind especially when it involves risking relationships with family and friends. Thank you for sharing this.
