I read the book as a child, but never realized a cartoon was made!

It was part of a compendium CBS special called "Dr. Seuss Is On The Loose," which also included "The Zax" (i.e., the North-going Zax meets the South-going Zax, and both of them refuse to budge an inch, for centuries) and (I think) "Green Eggs and Ham."
