He had sought protection under one of the biggest trees in the park, but the rain had found a way to pour down between the leave, making Ace soaking wet. For the hundredth time, he cursed under his breath. His leather jacket was slick against his bare skin under it and his eyes looked around, trying to spot his brother. Once again he gazed at his watch. 03:19.
Smoker escaped from his mouth and he tried to lean further in to the tree. He hated this god forgotten weather and if it wasn't for Luffy calling him on his cell phone half an hour ago, shouting at Ace to hurry up and meet him in the park, the raven was sure that he would have left his bed for nothing.
Luffy had been over the top, even more excited than usually, something for the Guinness Book of World Records. His ecstatic brother had refused to tell him why he acted like he was on LSD; all Luffy had been repeating was that Ace had to meet him in the park as fast as possible. Before the older brother had a chance to question him, Luffy ended the call. Muttering, Ace had climbed out of his bed. Knowing his brother all too well he figured that he wouldn't answer if he tried to call back.
He slipped on boxers and pants, but didn't bother to put on a shirt under his leather jacket. Stepping into the cold outside, he almost regretted his decision, but a dull feeling in his stomach made him continue down the road. Luffy had been in trouble before, and as Ace saw it, it had to be something out of the ordinary to make even Luffy call him in the middle of the night, demanding him to meet up.
At this moment, standing under that tree, almost shaking of cold, Ace regretted more than ever that not taking something warmer to wear. Luffy was still not in sight and the always present worry that came along with the title of big brother was eating him alive. What the hell could have happened?
Ace rubbed his fingers together, trying to heat his frozen digits. Looking out from the wall created by the green leaves he saw a shadow reproaching, closing in on him fast. Finally, his brother was here.
The black haired man almost passed Ace, as he still stood hidden under the tree. Luffy's eyes were opened wide, giving him a slightly crazy look, but they were accompanied with a huge, face cracking smile. Smoke erupted from his mouth in short, fast breath. It seemed as if he had been running for quite a while.
“Jikes, Luffy! What's the matter?” Ace, also he wide eyed now, stepped out in Luffy's way. It took about a second for the younger man to respond to the new figure, and then he threw himself at Ace, headfirst with all his powers. The raven let out a slight “oouaff” when being hit by Luffy's whole body weight, the hit causing both of them falling to the ground, rolling around in the wet grass. The rain still poured down as is the angels were treated with pepper spray by God, but Luffy didn't seem to care.
“Oh, fuck. Luffy!”, Ace growled, lying on his back. The water from the wet grass was sipping through his jacket and sent shivers down his spine. His hair was once again soaked and his slightly curled bangs were slicked against his forehead. At least Luffy was equally wet, but a lot happier. He had placed himself on his brother's stomach seemingly ignoring the fact that it was raining cats and dogs.
“Ace!!”, he breathed, still pretty short-winded.
“What is it? It better be something important. It's for hell's sake...”, taking a short break, Ace looked at his watch again. Seeing the result, he leaned his head back on the grass. It would be a pain in the ass to get to work tomorrow, that was for sure.
“03: 31.”
“It's Nami!”, Luffy bellowed, still wearing a smile all over his face, causing Ace's ear to ring slightly.
“What's with her?”, Ace asked when he regained his composure. Luffy had been together with a girl called Nami the last three years. He had always wondered how she managed. And he wondered how he managed. Sometimes his brother could be a little too much, like now. Ace was tired, wet and cold, and all he wanted was to return to his bed before he caught a cold.
“She's... We're... Ace, you...”, Luffy rambled, not able to focus. It took a hard smack to his face from his brother to get him back on the sane track again. Ace was currently counting down seconds until he would leave in his head, when Luffy finally cracked up with what he wanted said.
“Ace! You're gonna be an uncle! Nami's pregnant!!”
It took a moment for Ace to swallow down what his brother just said. Uncle... Luffy was going to have a kid. Copying his brother, a wide grin showed up on his face. Suddenly, small things like a rainy night was bullshit. He was going to be an uncle. He spread his arms on the grass, stretching all his limbs. Rain drops hit his face wit rapid speed, but he ignored them. No matter how wet and frozen he was, that fact that he was going to be an uncle created a warm feeling inside of his chest that kept him from feeling the cold.
