Sometimes, he wondered what the marines were thinking nowadays. More than once had he listened to the raging speeches from heated officers about their versions of absolute justice. They were never quite the same, as everybody’s own opinions shone through, but they all had one thing in common; they all detested pirates and thought of them as the scum of the world. An endless amount of time had he and his fellow pirates been indirectly called idiots, imbeciles, and various other insults by the government officials and marines. But for them to actually think of their enemies as the jerks described in the speeches, somehow that was as impressing as the trap the had built.
Ace sat crouched and looked at the simple construction with a quirked eye brow. The fresh grilled meat smelled delicious, but it rested under a big brick of seastone, held up with a stick with a thin cord that trailed into a couple of bushes. Just staring at it, the raven pondered if they ever had and ever would catch anybody that way. You really had to be illogical, kind of stupid and have a fearsome love of food to fall for that kind of trap. (In his mind, Ace sent a silent apology to his little brother.)
Getting up from the ground, Ace walked over to the simple construction, hands in his pocket. As he closed in, he felt the seastone’s powers oozing out from the block, but this was a too good chance to miss. He felt a little sad for the nice smelling meat that would go to waste, but well, it was for the greater cause of his own entertainment.
Kicking away the stick, the big seastone fell down on the ground beside him with a loud thump, and in a few seconds, marines came out from the bushes, shouting out their success. That was until they saw the very alive pirate, not crushed under the weight of the stone, but standing grinning beside it instead. Their victorious shouts were replaced by the sound of Ace's knuckles cracking together.
