I love my bitchy heroine even more now.

Just goes to show that pressing forward will work for some people, but some of us bog down until we eventually grind to a halt and are forced to go back and fix the things that are broken.

I love the story again.

Ah. Well. Sometimes I find that I can't slog on until I fix something broken, although in my drafts so far I'm generally satisfied with doing the rework on the outline or the synopsis.

Yeah, going back works. Or at least it worked for me. I developed specific skills (raising tension, foreshadowing, capturing emotions, etc) by going back, over and over, until I got a scene or a section just right. I did that instead of writing and polishing short stories, since writing shorts isn't really my thing (I don't have a lot of ideas, and I'm very attached to my characters).
